Swatches + Comparisons: Caudalie Divine Oil for Face, Body and Hair

Caudalie Divine Oil Review Spray Limited Edition Travel Size 3.4 1.7 0.5

Summer is right around the corner and since more skin is exposed, it's time to whip out my body oils and nourish my scaly, snake skin, which I've been hiding all winter. Can the Caudalie Divine Oil do the trick, and even for the face, hair or anywhere that screams dryness?

Caudalie Divine Oil Review Spray Size .5 3.4 oz 1.7 ounces

Price + Size: It currently comes in 3 sizes, including 3.4oz/100ml ($49), 1.7oz/50ml ($32), and 0.5oz/15ml ($9). The 1.7oz size also comes in the limited edition Divine Collection Set ($82) and the Grape Cure Set ($45).

Packaging: The travel size (0.5oz) is limited edition and doesn't come with a pump. The old version did, but has been discontinued. I wish they would bring it back because the spray is so convenient, wastes less product and disperses an even mist. The sprays in the 3.4oz and 1.7oz release a concentrated amount if you press down too slowly. (I recommend spraying the product onto your hand and then warming it with your fingers before applying directly onto the face or hair. For the body, you can just directly spray it onto the area intended and then rub it all over with your hands.)

All of the sizes, except for the discontinued one, come with a wooden cap, which makes it look even more luxurious and attractive. Also, they are all housed in a glass bottle, which has some weight to it and is very sturdy. I knocked it over a few times on my vanity and it didn't shatter!

Scent: The fragrance is composed of "Moroccan rose, Bulgarian rose, grapefruit, pink pepper, cedar, vanilla and white musk." I personally find that it has a distinct woody scent that's not perfume-y, citrus-y or fruity. I don't sense it after a few seconds of application unless I directly smell my skin. It lingers on my body for about an hour and is barely noticeable after about an hour and a half even when I sniff directly on my skin.

Formula: The Divine Oil is made with a blend of grapeseed, hibiscus, sesame, and argan oils combined with Caudalie's patented anti-oxidant polyphenols. It's a dry oil that absorbs into the skin quickly and does not feel heavy at all. It takes only a few seconds for it to dry down. It's also worth mentioning that it does not contain shimmers, parabens, sodium laureth sulfate, phthalates, phenoxyethanol, mineral oils or animal ingredients.

Ingredients: Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil*, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil*, Isoamyl Cocoate*, Coco-Caprylate*, Fragrance, Ethylhexyl Palmitate*, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter Extract*, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Hibiscus Sabdariffa Seed Oil*, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil*, Tocopherol*, Palmitoyl Grape Seed Extract*, Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Fruit/Leaf/Stem Extract*, Citric Acid*, Benzyl Salicylate, Linalool, Hydroxycitronellal, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Limonene, Citronellol, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Geraniol. *Plant origin.

My Experience:
  • Face -  I use about 2-3 sprays and apply it directly onto my hands so that my fingers can warm it up. Then, I'll apply it onto my face using a pressing motion in order to ensure that the oil deeply penetrates into the skin. (I'll wait a few minutes before applying the next product in my routine.)
    • I love pairing it with a lightweight emulsion, such as the Bareminerals Smart Combination ($35), in order to achieve the perfect amount of hydration that my skin needs. I wake up the next morning with supple, smooth and nourished skin that's ready for a flawless makeup application. It's the combination of using both the oil and emulsion together that provide these results because if I use either by itself, it's not enough hydration for the night time. (For reference, I have an oily t-zone and normal skin on the rest of my face.)

  • Body - One of the reasons why I dread moisturizing my body with a cream formula is because you really have to work the product into the skin in order to make sure that everything is blended. Although the Divine Oil is not as hydrating as a thick cream formula, it applies more quickly and evenly onto the skin. I love how it leaves my skin feeling very baby soft without any sticky or greasy residue. It also leaves a very subtle radiance that makes the skin look healthy rather than oily or shiny. (The swatches don't do it any justice!)
    • I apply about 4 sprays on each lower part of the leg, including the foot, 3 sprays on each thigh, 2-3 sprays on each entire arm and 1 spray on my décolleté. When I over applied the product for test purposes, I found that it didn't make my skin feel more moisturizing. Instead, it just felt greasy, took longer to dry down and I was essentially wasting product. Therefore, I highly recommend using less than what you think you need or apply it after showering, when your skin is still damp, to prevent over applying.
  • Hair -  It took me more than a year to finish the 3.4oz bottle when I used it solely for my hair because 1-2 sprays is all you really need. I have very dry ends due to heat damage from my straightening iron. The Divine Oil nourishes it and leaves my ends looking very silky and healthy without weighing it down. (I recommend using it only on the dry part of the hair and never near the scalp or where it's not needed to prevent it from looking greasy.)

Caudalie Divine Oil Review Spray Size 3.4oz 1.7oz 0.5oz

Bottom Line:  The Caudalie Divine Oil is a great multi-tasker that adds lightweight moisture to the skin quickly with minimal effort. If you plan on using it for your body, hair and face, or just the body, then I recommend getting the biggest size (3.4oz). The 1.7oz will last at least 6 months if you plan on using it for just the hair or face. The travel size (0.5oz) would be more convenient if it had a spray, but it's handy for small trips.

Note: The Caudalie Divine Oil is available at Sephora, Nordstrom, Beauty.com and Space NK.
