Products are not twisted all the way up. |
I have full sausage lips that get easily chapped. I've tried countless lip balms and the Burt's Bees one is the best one that I've tried. Other ones either just sit on top of my lips or make my them peel and even more chapped. Full coverage and matte lipsticks tend to exacerbate the problem, while glossy and frosty ones tend to accentuate my lips, making it appear fish-like bigger. Therefore, I prefer sheer to medium coverage lip products that are not too matte or too glossy. Also, since my lips are already pigmented, I tend to gravitate towards shades that are "my lips, but better."

Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Primer ($16 for 0.16oz/4.5g) - It smooths onto the skin and feels like a silicone-based primer. It's not heavy on the lips at all, doesn't dry my lips further and actually feels comfortable to wear.
Ingredients: Isotridecyl Isononanoate, Octyldodecanol, Silica, Ozokerite, Ceresin, Synthetic Wax, Quaternium-18 Bentonite, Ethylene/Propylene Copolymer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, 1,2 Hexanediol.
Trish McEvoy Flawless Lip Primer ($28 for 0.09oz) - It feels like a butter lip balm that melts into the skin and feels thinner compared to the Anastasia one. It also has a sleeker packaging and provides a more precise application. Both primers are odorless and go on clear. They do not change the consistency, finish or color of your lips. When swatched on my arm, the Anastasia one has a more yellow undertone, while the Trish Mcevoy one has a more pink undertone. However, the difference in the undertone is unnoticeable when worn on the lips. In terms of performance, both primers prevent my lip color from bleeding/feathering, extend the wear a little bit longer and work especially well with dark colors.
Ingredients: Cyclopentasiloxane, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Paraffin, Olybutene, Ozokerite, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil Unsaponifiables, Petrolatum, Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C Palmitate), Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extract, Mica.
Dior Addict Lip Glow Color Reviver Balm in 001 Pink ($33 for 0.12oz/3.5g) - This one along with the Burberry lip balm are the sheerest and most hydrating of the bunch. It's suppose to react to the color chemistry of your lips to provide the perfect pink shade. On me, it adds a little bit of tint and shine to my lips without looking too glossy. I love that it looks natural, feels moisturizing and is tasteless. (When I sniff the lip balm, it has a hint of peppermint.)
Burberry Lip Glow Balm in No.02 Pink Peony ($28 0.14oz/4g) - The formula feels slightly more buttery and is darker compared to the Dior lip balm. It's so moisturizing that I don't feel the need to wear chapstick underneath. It also has a magnetic closure and is scented with the same floral fragrance that they use for their blush. It has the strongest taste out of the bunch.
Burberry Kisses Lipstick Hydrating Lip Colour ($33 for 0.11oz/3.3g) - The 2 colors mentioned below provide buildable, sheer to medium coverage, while the darker colors from their line can provide up to full coverage without looking cakey or cause my lips to peel. The formula is very comfortable to wear, feels very hydrating, is fragrance-free & tasteless. They both leave a satin finish without looking too glossy or too matte and don't contain any shimmers. They also last about 4 hours on my lips and leave behind a natural looking stain. (I drank through a straw and did not eat while I was wearing the lipstick.)
- No.21 Nude - This is a very wearable nude that doesn't make my lips look ashy or pale.
- No.33 Rose Pink - It translates into a mauvey pink on my pigmented lips.
Marc Jacobs New Nudes Sheer Lip Gel Lipstick ($30 for 0.12oz/3.6g) - The formula doesn't feel as hydrating as the Burberry Kisses lipstick, but it's still comfortable to wear as long as I exfoliate and wear a lip balm underneath. It provides buildable, sheer to medium coverage. (I find that it provides slightly more coverage, while using less product compared to the Burberry Kisses lipstick.) There is a faint vanilla scent, but it's practically tasteless. It also has a convenient magnetic closure.
- 108 Have We Met? - It's a bright warm pink with fine shimmers. It doesn't look too sparkly when worn on the lips.
- 110 Role Play - It's a dusty and rosey brown shade that doesn't cause my lips to look corpse-like. When compared to Burberry No.21 Nude, I find that Role Play is more rosey.
Lancome Color Design Sensational Effects Lipcolor Lipstick in Love It ($23 for 0.14oz/4g) - I got the full size for free with my Lancome GWP. The formula feels very comfortable to wear, even though it provides full coverage and it's more hydrating than the Marc Jacobs one. It leaves a cream finish without being too glossy or too matte and does not contain any shimmers. It's also odorless and tasteless. As for the color, it translates into a rosey pink on my lips and is slightly darker than Burberry No.33 Rose Pink.
By Terry Rouge Terrybly Age Defense Lipstick in 100 Terrybly Nude ($50.50 for 0.12oz/3.5g) - It's a pinky nude that looks gorgeous on lighter beauties and provides full coverage. Unfortunately, the color did not work well on my pigmented lips, which lightened it and made it look ashy. I also find the formula to feel the least hydrating of the bunch. (Those who have normal, non-drying lips may not find the lipstick to be drying at all.) I appreciate the magnetic closure and the lovely signature on the lipstick. It also has a faint rose scent that's not too overwhelming.
Bottom Line: Those who prefer sheer lip products would find the Dior and Burberry lip balm to be your cup of tea. For someone who wants more color and coverage without compromising hydration, then the Burberry Kisses and Lancome Color Design lipsticks are more suitable for you. Those with extremely dry lips like mine must exfoliate, apply a lip balm and prep using the Anastasia or Trish Mcevoy primer when wearing the Marc Jacobs and By Terry lipsticks.
