I'm always in the market for new brushes, if you guys haven't already noticed. =) So, when I saw the Marc Jacobs The Face II Sculpting Foundation brush a couple of months ago, I just had to buy it. I was intrigued by the curved shape and immediately fell in love with it as soon as I brought it home. So, I started looking for other brushes with the same shape and decided to try Tarte's and Sephora's version.
Marc Jacobs The Face II Sculpting Foundation Brush No. 2 ($48) - The bristles are made of synthetic material and feel bunny soft. I can't stop petting it! Because it has a curved tip, it fits the contours of my face really well and makes applying foundation effortlessly. I use it in a painting motion and it leaves no streaks whatsoever because it has the right of amount of density and is the perfect size. I'm done with my whole face within seconds. It also works especially well with thick, heavy and full-coverage foundations because the density of the bristles allows product to be blended & buffed into the skin effortlessly and prevents foundation from looking cakey.
Tarte Foundcealer Brush ($39.50) - This brush came in a set called the Tarte Maracuja Miracle Foundcealer Oil and Brush and is not available for purchase individually. The bristles are made of synthetic material and feel just as soft as the Marc Jacobs one. The Tarte one is a little bit bigger and slightly less dense compared to the Marc Jacobs brush, but is by no means flimsy. It's still great for applying liquid foundation. Because of its size, you can use this in a painting or buffing motion.
Tarte Beyond BB Brush ($48) - This brush also came in a set called the Tarte Beyond BB Perfecting Liquid Foundation and is not available for purchase individually. The bristles are made of synthetic material and are more densely packed compared to the brushes that I mentioned above. I love using it to apply liquid foundation in a painting motion. It's better than the traditional paddle brushes because the Tarte one is thicker, which minimizes streaking. I like that it also fits underneath my eyes perfectly so I don't have to use an extra brush to apply concealer. The main difference with this brush compared to the ones mentioned above is that it acts as a contour brush as well. It fits right in the hollows of my cheeks and provides a precise chiseled look. After you apply your contour, you can flip the brush over and blend the product using the curved side of the brush. This brush is also great for applying highlight on top of your cheekbones.
Sephora Collection Classic Multitasker Contour #55 Brush ($24) - The bristles are made of synthetic material and are slightly thicker and taller. The curved shape is also more defined. I use this one the same way that I use the Tarte Beyond BB brush. The main difference is that the Sephora one is wider at the tip when looking at it from the side view, which makes blending slightly easier.
Bottom Line: These brushes don't disappoint. I just wish Tarte would sell their brushes individually!
Note: The Marc Jacobs brush can be purchased at Sephora. The Tarte Foundcealer brush is available on QVC and Tarte online. The Tarte Beyond BB brush is available only on their online store. The Sephora brush can be purchased on their online store.
